Our Story

​We have been breeding cattle for personal use for some time. The Miniature Herefords are the newest addition to our breeding stock it all started with Charolais Cattle. My wife and father-in-law started showing cattle when she was 9 years old. They started with one heifer and built a herd of about 25 over the next several years. Upon graduation from high school my wife went onto college and her father and brother took care of the herd. In 2005 we both graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. In 2007 we were married. In 2010 we moved back to my wife's hometown, bought a house on 30 aces and resumed care of the Charolais herd. 

We started Kelly Show Cattle in September of 2013 for our daughter Savannah (3 years old) and son Harris (Due February 2014). Savannah has two cousins that show cattle and she always asked us why she can't show cattle like her cousins. After using the "you're not old enough" line until we were blue in the face, we decided to see if there was an opportunity for a 3-year-old to participate in cattle shows. While looking into this we came across the Miniature Hereford breed and discovered kids can start showing at most major shows and sanctioned TJLA shows under the pre-junior & open show category starting at age 3.

This is when my wife and I became very excited! We both showed cattle growing up and felt this would be a great opportunity for us to bond as a family and to provide our daughter and son with the value of responsibility. My wife and I learned a great deal of life lessons while caring for and showing cattle. With all of this in mind we sat down with our daughter and talked about what we would expect from her if we were going to get her some Miniature Hereford show cattle. She was so excited to have show cattle, I'm pretty sure she did not hear anything after, "if we get you some cattle to show....", but that was it, we were off on a new adventure and that's how Kelly Show Cattle came to be.

So far Savannah is hooked and loves feeding, washing and caring for her Miniature Herefords. Harris is now 4 and he loves showing and caring for the cattle just as much as his big sister.

Becoming a part of the Miniature Hereford Breed has been a true blessing for our family and we hope that our story will help other families get involved in showing. After all our kids are the future and investing in them now and teaching them life skills and values will lead to a better future for us all.
